PBN BRIDGES THE GAP

WHAT WE DO

With more than 85 percent of low-income Americans’ civil legal needs going unmet annually, the legal aid community faces enormous demand for its services. PBN connects attorneys who want to volunteer with workable pro bono opportunities that make an impact.

HOW WE WORK

PBN makes attorney volunteerism work, bridging the gap between the need for civil legal aid and the untapped potential of volunteer attorneys. We provide attorneys with structure and support so their volunteer commitment fits their situation. And we make connections to clients who need assistance.

OUR IMPACT

During the last 12 years, PBN partnered with more than 20 community organizations and legal aid agencies.  We recruited and supported more than 450 volunteer attorneys and 30 translators who have contributed 29,000 volunteer hours— totaling over $7.25M in free legal services—to help 5,000 clients.

PROGRAMS

Building Collaborative Programs that Support Volunteers and Expand Legal Assistance

PBN programs are developed to support our volunteer attorneys while also expanding access to legal aid. Through our unique model, we forge collaborative relationships with reputable legal aid agencies in the Chicago area, and together develop mutually beneficial programs in which our volunteers augment their work. Many of our programs pair up volunteer attorneys so that they can work in partnership and provide back-up for one another on any given day. We also offer regular training that provides volunteers with the information they need to be effective.
